The letter of the Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations (UN) Yashar Aliyev, sent to the Secretary General of the organization Antonio Guterres, has been published as a document of the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council.
According to the American bureau Report, the letter reflected the position of the Azerbaijani side regarding the distorted and false statements of the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN.
"Armenia's goal is clear – to avoid responsibility for the aggression against Azerbaijan, the occupation of the sovereign territories of my country for thirty years, mass atrocities, hate crimes and blatant racist policies. Armenia's repeated statements about large-scale military operations allegedly launched by Azerbaijan in 2020 are a figment of fantasy. Azerbaijan is in full compliance with the UN Charter, international law and UN Security Council resolutions №№ 822 (1993), 853 (1993), 874 (1993) 884 (1993) He launched a counteroffensive only on his sovereign land in order to restore his territorial integrity and protect his people.
As for the clashes that took place in September 2022, they did not take place on the territory of Armenia, but on the non-delimited Azerbaijani-Armenian border, and a provocation was committed by the Armenian armed forces, which was duly documented and brought to the attention of the UN," Ya pointed out.Aliev.
The diplomat stressed that Armenia's claims regarding the Lachyn-Khankendi road are equally false.
"After the signing of the Trilateral Declaration of November 10, 2020, in accordance with this document, with the guarantees of safety given by Azerbaijan, the regime of transportation of people, movement of vehicles and goods by road remained unchanged. Over the past period, residents, ambulances, humanitarian aid convoys and the International Committee of the Red Cross have used the road without restrictions.
However, during the specified period of time, Armenia abused the Lachyn road for illegal military purposes, including for the rotation of personnel of the Armed Forces, the transfer of weapons to the territory and the burial of mines, as well as for the illegal trafficking of minerals.
The establishment by Azerbaijan of a border checkpoint at the entrance to the Lachyn Road on its sovereign territory is based on the basic principles of territorial sovereignty and integrity of states, on the task of ensuring their security based on the protection of their borders and the rule of law," the letter says.
The Ambassador stated that Armenia, having distorted the facts, misinterpreted international documents.
"Instead of misleading the international community, wasting time on enmity and hatred, Armenia should fulfill its international obligations, completely withdraw its armed forces and illegal armed formations from the territory of Azerbaijan, return eight border villages of Azerbaijan that are still under occupation, put an end to territorial claims, illegal activities and disinformation, mine terror, to shed light on the fate of several thousand Azerbaijanis who went missing during the conflict, to participate in negotiations on compensation for damage, the damage caused to Azerbaijan and the peace agreement and the delimitation of the border between the two states," the document says.
It is also emphasized that despite the lies, manipulation and misinformation spread by Armenia, Azerbaijan is determined to ensure the rehabilitation, restoration and integration of the territories affected by the conflict, as well as to ensure the safe return of refugees and internally displaced persons to their homes, accelerate normalization.
