Former khokim of Sharof Rashidov district, Mahmud Kholbutayev, was sentenced to 11 years in prison by a court verdict on February 25. The press service of the Supreme Court reported this.

Mahmud Kholbutayev was found guilty of bribery, embezzlement, abuse of authority, and violation of the procedure for granting land and was sentenced to 11 years in prison, a fine of 150 times the minimum wage, and a 3-year ban on holding official positions. He will serve his sentence in a general regime colony.

The chief specialist of the khokim, who was caught with the khokim, was also sentenced to 7 years in prison and deprived of his official rights for 2 years.

The former khokim was caught in July 2025 while accepting a bribe in exchange for allocating 1.7 hectares of land allocated for the construction of a school for the construction of apartment buildings. Currently, the leadership of the district administration belongs to Asilbek Ashurov.
