BAKU, September 9 – Sputnik. On Saturday in Baku, Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov discussed with Iranian Major General Muhammedov Ahadi the situation in the South Caucasus and regional security issues, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense reports.
It should be noted that Ahadi arrived in Baku to participate in a meeting of the Azerbaijani-Iranian joint commission.
During the meeting, Hasanov spoke about the operational situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian conventional border and in the Karabakh economic region.
He emphasized that recently provocations by the Armenian Armed Forces and Armenian illegal armed groups on the territory of the republic, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed, have become more frequent. Hasanov indicated that all provocations are immediately and decisively suppressed by units of the Azerbaijani army.
In turn, Ahadi noted that Azerbaijani-Iranian relations have historical roots and noted the importance of mutual visits in terms of expanding good neighborly ties. At the meeting, the Iranian delegation expressed concern about Armenia's actions, which could pose a threat to stability and security in the region.
At the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the prospects for the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in the military sphere.
