UN Emergency Coordinator Martin Griffiths welcomed the arrival of the first humanitarian aid convoy into Gaza since fighting broke out on October 7 following deadly attacks by Hamas militants on Israel. A convoy of 20 trucks passed through the Rafah checkpoint on the border with Egypt and delivered relief goods donated to Gazans by the Egyptian Red Crescent Society and UN agencies. After several days of waiting, the humanitarian convoy was allowed to cross the border. In Gaza, this aid was received by the staff of the Palestinian Red Crescent. Martin Griffiths said he hoped the first delivery of aid would pave the way for a permanent and safe supply of essential goods such as food, water, medicine and fuel to the people of Gaza. The UN Emergency Coordinator wrote about this on his page on X.
