On May 30, the registration of candidates for the presidential elections in Iran began. Zuhra Ilohiyan, the first woman to be registered as a candidate for the first time in the election, ran for the presidency.
Also, the former president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was registered as a candidate in the presidential elections. He was the president of Iran from 2005 to 2013. His controversial re-election in 2009 sparked widespread protests across the country, with dozens killed and thousands arrested. In 2017 and 2021, Ahmadinejad was not allowed to participate in the elections.
