World film critics have named Sean Baker’s “Anora” the best film of the year. However, this film is not for Uzbeks. It is banned from showing in local cinemas and third-party sources.

Recall that the film “Anora” is about a Brooklyn stripper of Uzbek ethnicity who falls in love with the son of a Russian oligarch. Her grandmother was Uzbek, but the film itself does not touch on the themes of Uzbek culture, mentality and history and does not fit in. In addition, the stripper calls herself Annie, and her last name is not Uzbek.

– According to an IndieWire poll, she won the “Best Picture” nomination, collecting 50% of all votes. She also took first place for best screenplay and third place for best director. Among the critics who participated in the survey were 177 representatives from Variety, The New Yorker, the Associated Press, and other foreign media outlets.
