The European Central Bank plans to allocate 1.2 billion dollars to alleviate hunger and provide food to the countries of Central Asia, said Anna-Maria Chkonia, coordinator of the Bank's Technical Assistance Fund. In order to reduce the level of malnutrition in the region, it is necessary to improve the roads, he said. This reduces losses during the delivery of perishable goods and lowers the cost of food products. Chkonia noted that the Central Asian countries react more sharply to problems related to transport and infrastructure. The region's population also faces high levels of obesity and a lack of essential micronutrients. At the same time, the cost of healthy food is increasing every year, and it is not accessible to the entire population of Central Asia. Today, more than 10 million people living in the region do not have the opportunity to eat healthy food. We remind you that in the food safety rating for 2021, Uzbekistan is in 85th place, second after Kazakhstan - in 33rd place. From 2017 to 2021, our country's food purchases increased by 2.3 times and reached 2.92 billion dollars. Earlier, "Kursiv" wrote that the Central Asian countries suffered more than 2 billion dollars from drought over 16 years.
