According to the press service of the President, the meeting discussed the measures being taken for Uzbekistan's membership in the WTO as soon as possible. The head of state emphasized the importance of joining the organization based on the medium and long-term development goals Uzbekistan has set for itself. He touched upon the preparation of the next meeting of the working group, as well as strengthening the capacity and improving the skills of specialists participating in the process. The Director General of the WTO highly appreciated the measures taken by Uzbekistan to become a member of the organization. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala expressed confidence that the WTO Secretariat will fully support the efforts of Uzbekistan and that the country will join the organization in the near future. At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached on accelerating preparations for the next meeting of the Working Group, improving the qualifications of specialists, and harmonizing the legislation with WTO agreements and rules. In his speech at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, Shavkat Mirziyoyev touched on the issue of Uzbekistan's membership in the WTO. "Another priority task of our economy liberalization is to become a full member of the World Trade Organization in the near future," the president said. What does membership in the organization give to Uzbekistan? Uzbekistan can benefit from WTO membership in several ways: Access to new markets: By becoming a member of the WTO, Uzbekistan will have the opportunity to access wider markets around the world. This will help increase the volume of exports and increase foreign investments in the country. As a result, economic growth will increase and more jobs will be created. Improved trade rules: As a WTO member, Uzbekistan is required to comply with international trade rules and requirements. This can help improve the business environment in the country, increase transparency in trade practices and reduce corruption. Intellectual property protection: The WTO provides a framework for protecting intellectual property rights, which is important for Uzbekistan's growing technology and creative industries. Dispute Settlement: The WTO provides a platform for the settlement of international trade disputes. By joining the organization, Uzbekistan will have the opportunity to use a mechanism that helps to resolve disputes with other countries fairly and impartially. In general, WTO membership will help Uzbekistan integrate more fully into the world economy, improve trade practices, and promote economic development. Negotiations on this have progressed significantly in recent years.
