The day began with the traditional Te Deum, a religious thanksgiving service held at the Cathedral of Saint Michael and Saint Gudula in Brussels, where Their Majesties King Philip and Queen Mathilde were present, along with other distinguished guests, including the royal couple Albert and Paola, Philip's parents. The ceremony was a joyous celebration of Philip's ten years as monarch of Belgium. (Philip became Belgian monarch in July 2013, following the abdication of his father, Albert II).
Ambassador Palvanov was invited to an official reception where he had the opportunity to meet and discuss topical issues of cooperation with Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib and other high-ranking officials of the kingdom, such as Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter, President of the Senate Stephanie D'Ose, President of the House of Representatives Eliane Tiye and Minister of Energy Tinne van der Streten.
King's Oath Day is the main official holiday in Belgium. On this day in 1831, the first King Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha took an oath and promised to be the guarantor of the constitution of the new European state.
