"Dunyo" AA reports that at the 217th session of the UNESCO Executive Council held in Paris from October 4 to 18, the resolution "Tashkent Declaration on the occasion of the International Freedom of Information Day" initiated by Uzbekistan was unanimously approved.

September 28 is celebrated by the UN General Assembly as International Freedom of Information Day.

The draft resolution was one of the main documents included as a new item on the agenda of the 217th session of the Executive Council by member states. 20 countries signed the document, including Andorra, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kuwait, Egypt, Morocco, Syria, Sudan, Tunisia, Palestine, Palau, Sri Lanka, Hungary, Lebanon, Liberia, Zimbabwe and Chile co-sponsored.

The resolution expressed gratitude to the government of Uzbekistan for organizing a series of events in Tashkent (September 28-29, 2022) in connection with the International Freedom of Information Day. The document also calls on the CEO to support activities that promote the use of information to promote human rights and sustainable development as set out in the Tashkent Declaration.

According to the document, a decision was made to include the "Tashkent Declaration on Freedom of Information" on the agenda of the 42nd session of the General Conference (November 7-22 this year, Paris).

The resolution of the Executive Board is expected to be adopted with the support of the General Conference of UNESCO (general approval).
