This is possible only after the full commissioning of the Rogun HPP.
Tajikistan ranks sixth in the world in the production of "green energy", said the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the country, Zavki Zavkizoda, during the presentation of the National Voluntary Review of the Republic of Tajikistan on the topic "Green Development for a Bright, Sustainable and Inclusive Future".

This event, according to the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development, took place last Wednesday as part of the High-Level Political Forum in New York.

He noted that Tajikistan is the source of more than 60% of Central Asia's water resources, and 98% of electricity is produced by hydroelectric power plants.

The minister stressed that Tajikistan will take the fourth place in the world in the production of "green energy" after the full commissioning of the Rogun hydroelectric power station.

“At the same time, Tajikistan is among the countries with a small share of greenhouse gas emissions,” he added.

Under the production of "green energy", most likely, it is supposed to generate electricity from renewable energy sources.

The ranking of countries in the world by the percentage of electricity received from renewable energy sources, in which Tajikistan was in 6th place, was prepared and published by the World Bank in April 2016.

The rating noted that the share of electricity received in Tajikistan from renewable sources is 99.56%.

The top five then included Albania and Portugal (both 100% each), Iceland (99.98%), Mozambique (99.86%) and Zambia (99.70%).

According to official statistics, the share of renewable energy sources (hydroelectric power stations and solar stations) in the total volume of electricity produced in Tajikistan in 2022 was 93.1%.

In the past year, about 21 billion 399.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity were generated in the republic, of which just over 19 billion 924.1 million kilowatt hours come from renewable sources.

The reduction in the share of renewable energy sources since then is associated with the commissioning of the Dushanbe CHPP-2.

Rogun HPP (installed capacity 3600 MW) is expected to be fully commissioned in 2033. Currently, 2 out of 6 units of this station are operating.
