It is noted that the event was dedicated to the importation and spread of especially dangerous infectious diseases.

In addition to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, the CIS Executive Committee and Kyrgyzstan took part in it.

Thus, during the meeting, Rospotrebnadzor informed the participants about the continuation of the implementation in 2023 of programs to assist the Commonwealth countries in ensuring epidemiological well-being for plague and other infectious diseases.

Moreover, "training of specialists, holding joint exercises, joint expeditionary work and strengthening the material and technical base of specialized institutions" are expected.

The source stressed that the issues of updating the register of specialists of organizations of the sanitary and epidemiological profile of the CIS countries for joint work in the zone of emergency situations of a sanitary and epidemiological nature were also discussed.

Bubonic plague confirmed on border with China

Plague is an endemic disease. The disease is carried by rodents and fleas living on them.

The most recent case of detection of bubonic plague was recorded in Kyrgyzstan. Just five years ago, a 15-year-old teenager ate marmot meat and died from the disease.

In Kazakhstan, the disease was last documented in this century: three residents of the Mangistau region in the west of the country were hospitalized with this diagnosis.

Experts say that natural foci can be found on 40% of the territory of Kazakhstan: all these zones are under the control of the anti-plague service.

But in Tajikistan, the last case of infection with bubonic plague occurred 120 years ago. Then at least 200 people, including doctors, died from it. Biologists are now examining the habitats of ground squirrel carriers.
