The importance of constant dialogue between the SCO and the UN on the issue of countering the drug threat from Afghanistan was emphasized by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan
It is necessary to maintain a constant dialogue on the problem of drug trafficking from Afghanistan.
Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Mukhriddin called on the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the UN to do this.
He stated this while speaking at an extraordinary meeting of the heads of the SCO foreign ministries, which took place on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
“The head of the Foreign Ministry of Tajikistan emphasized the importance of constant dialogue between the SCO and the UN on the issues of countering the drug threat emanating from the territory of Afghanistan,” the republic’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
Mukhriddin also noted that regional organizations such as the SCO play an important role in complementing UN efforts to counter threats.

Earlier, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, speaking at the general political debates of the UN General Assembly, said that over the past two years more than 10 tons of drugs have been seized on the Tajik-Afghan border.
