The Swedish Migration Agency has decided to revoke the residence permit issued to Iraqi refugee Salvon Momik and deport him from the country. He held four public Quran burning events between July and September.
“The decision was made on October 25. This means that his (refugee) status and residence permit have been revoked. He will also be deported,” Esper Tengrut, a representative of the country’s migration department, told TV4.
He said the deportation decision was due to false information on his asylum application. In addition to deportation, Momik is prohibited from returning to Sweden for 5 years.
The Migration Department has given an Iraqi refugee time to obtain a residence permit in another country because there is a “risk of torture” in Salvon Momik’s homeland. However, Momika said that he does not intend to leave Sweden and will appeal the decision of the Migration Department.
Swedish TV channel SVT added that Momika registered in the country as an immigrant in April 2021 and received a residence permit valid for 3 years.
Salvon Momika conducted 4 Quran burning events in Sweden from June to September. Iraq responded by severing diplomatic relations with Sweden and expelling their ambassador from Baghdad.
