The issue of protecting children from all types of violence and creating a safer and more comfortable environment for the children of Uzbekistan was put forward at the roundtable discussion held today, October 10. And for this, it was called to adopt the draft law "On the protection of children from all forms of violence".

Violence not only violates human rights, it also affects the rest of a child's life. We want to put an end to the silence on this acute problem and change the attitude in the society that causes this problem to still exist, - said Shahnoza Mirziyoyeva, the first deputy director of the National Social Protection Agency.

It is noted that the adoption of a special law on stopping violence is in line with the recent amendments to the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, which in turn make girls, boys and women more vulnerable to violence. strengthens legal protection against fraud.

The roundtable added that more than 1 billion children worldwide experience physical, emotional or sexual abuse every year.

A recent Multiindicator Cluster Survey (MICS) showed that 2 out of 3 children (62 percent) in Uzbekistan between the ages of 1 and 14 years experienced violent parenting methods (physical punishment and/or psychological abuse ), 33 percent of girls aged 15-19 believe that a husband has the right to beat his wife. Once enacted, the Act will provide family counseling, mental health and psychosocial support, life skills training and access to safe housing, welfare and violence, "It will benefit girls and boys across Uzbekistan through increased safety, protection from fear and harm, strengthened legal guarantees and improved support systems," the official information about the roundtable said.
