Study: 80% of Generation Z employees admit they only try to look busy at work

According to a study conducted in the United States among 1,003 employees, 80% of Generation Z workers under the age of 28 admitted that during working hours they are more likely to try to appear busy than to actually work.

The survey also found that 66% of employees and 73% of managers sometimes use different methods to create the impression that they are being productive. For example, they walk around the office carrying documents, press the keyboard without any real purpose, move the computer mouse to appear active, or leave unnecessary documents open on their screens.

Researchers estimate that employees spend an average of 5 hours per week demonstrating this kind of "busy behavior," which adds up to approximately 33 working days per year.

According to experts, the main reason is not employee laziness, but the fact that some companies place greater value on appearing busy than on actual results, along with the presence of constant monitoring systems. Therefore, specialists recommend evaluating employees based on their performance and achievements rather than on how busy they appear.
