Students in Gaza returned to traditional education after three years.

On September 19, hundreds of thousands of students in the Gaza Strip returned to in-person schooling after a three-year hiatus. However, classes are primarily being held in war-damaged buildings and makeshift tents.
According to UNICEF, 98 percent of schools in Gaza were damaged or destroyed during the war. Education officials reported that approximately 660,000 students had been deprived of school-based education.
The new academic year began with the support of international and local organizations. Temporary schools made of tents, tarpaulins, sheet metal, and wood have been set up for the students.
As many families struggle to afford notebooks, pens, and school uniforms, some students are arriving at class without necessary school supplies.
Education officials state that, with UNICEF's support, plans are in place to provide in-person instruction to at least 540,000 students at temporary learning centers by 2026. Online education will also continue for students unable to attend classes in person.
