In the Volga Federal District of Russia, at least eight people were killed by the hurricane, and about 80 people were injured. Information about this was provided by Russian authorities on Sunday, July 30. The epicenter of the natural disaster was in the Republic of Mari El, where the tourist tent camp near Lake Yalchik was covered with trees due to the storm. According to the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia, 3 of the dead were young children. 16 people were taken to the hospital, two of the victims are in serious condition, Yoshkar-Ola Mayor Yevgeny Maslov said. It is noted that there were about 500 cars in the camp during the disaster. "At 6:00 p.m., a strong wind knocked down a large number of trees near Lake Yalchik. This place was a favorite vacation spot not only for the residents of Mari El, but also for Tatars," the head of the republic wrote on his telegram page. At the same time, the hurricane left 36,000 people without electricity. Emergency recovery is underway throughout the federal district.
