Starbucks Pays $50 Million in Damages

A California court has awarded Starbucks $50 million in damages to a delivery driver after a lengthy legal battle.
The case was brought to a head in 2020 after delivery driver Michael Garcia suffered severe burns and underwent multiple skin grafts after being mistakenly treated by a Starbucks employee.
While Garcia was picking up an order from a drive-thru, a Starbucks employee improperly closed the lid of his cup, causing the drink to spill on his thigh and causing severe burns. The delivery driver was hospitalized and underwent multiple skin grafts.
