Soul star John Legend to perform in Samarkand

John Legend's first concert in Central Asia will take place on June 8 at the Registan Square in Samarkand, the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts announced.
"Legend's music, imbued with the ideals of love and peace, will resonate in a special way against the backdrop of the ancient architectural monuments of Samarkand. The performance in the Registan will become not only a musical celebration, but also a cultural symbol of dialogue between time, history and modern world culture," the foundation noted.
John Legend is known as an author of music in the genres of soul, R&B and pop, a pianist, singer, actor and producer. He has won 13 Grammy statuettes for his work, as well as Oscar, Emmy and Tony awards.
His first Grammy Awards came with his 2004 album Get Lifted.
In 2015, John Legend co-wrote the song "Glory" with rapper Common for the film Selma, which won a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
He has also collaborated with Kanye West, Jay-Z, The Black Eyed Peas, Andre 3000, Ariana Grande, Janet Jackson, The Roots, and many others. In addition, John Legend played the role of musician and jazz club owner Kit in the film La La Land (2016), which won six Academy Awards.
