Some families seeking divorce in Uzbekistan might not be granted a reconciliation period

Specific grounds may be established for granting a divorce without a reconciliation period to families wishing to separate in Uzbekistan. Dilnoza Kattakhonova, Chairperson of the Committee on Family and Women, announced this at a Senate meeting.
According to the proposal, a reconciliation period might be waived if one spouse has been subjected to violence or harassment, suffers from alcohol or drug addiction, has AIDS, or has lived apart without a valid reason for three years.
Under current regulations, a court may grant a couple a reconciliation period of up to six months. If the new law is adopted, this procedure will be amended.
According to the data, 29,353 divorces were recorded in Uzbekistan between January and July 2026. This represents a 5 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.
