Social Media Access Restricted for Children Under 16 in Malaysia
Starting from June 1, new regulations in Malaysia prohibit users under the age of 16 from creating new accounts on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
Under the country's Online Safety Act, social media platforms are required to verify the age of their users. Those under 16 have been given one month to save photos and videos from their accounts. After that, their accounts may be restricted or temporarily suspended.
Platforms have been granted a six-month transition period to fully implement the age-verification system.
