In January-August 2023, more than 9 million violations of traffic rules were recorded. In particular, about 8 million gross violations, about 26,000 drunk driving and more than 161,000 pedestrian violations were recorded.
As a result, 5,772 traffic accidents occurred during this period, in which 1,415 people died, and another 5,448 citizens were injured in various degrees.
Talibjon Madumarov, the deputy chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security, informed about this.
Talibjon Madumarov also noted that there are about 11,000 pedestrian crossings across Uzbekistan. However, only 1,834 of them have traffic lights or other road signs to ensure pedestrian safety.
Most uncontrolled crosswalks also do not have appropriate road signs that immediately warn drivers of the object.
The senator noted that in the period from 2021 to 2023, 2,784 accidents were recorded at uncontrolled pedestrian crossings, of which 1,007 occurred in the dark.
