Shooting near the White House: two soldiers injured

On November 26, a shooting occurred near the White House in Washington, D.C. Two National Guard soldiers were injured in the shooting. According to Reuters, the attacker was Rahmonullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national. He was arrested with a gunshot wound.
It turned out that Lakanwal came to the United States in 2021 through a special visa program for Afghans, but had been living in the country illegally after his visa expired. The attack is being investigated as an act of terrorism. The shooting occurred when the National Guard was on a reinforced patrol. The suspect came out of a corner and unexpectedly opened fire on the soldiers. Two soldiers are in critical condition. The attacker was immediately neutralized by other guards.
The mayor of Washington said that this was a “targeted attack”. President Donald Trump was in Florida at the time of the incident. The White House was temporarily placed on lockdown, and numerous federal and city security forces were deployed to the area. Trump sharply criticized the attacker and ordered the deployment of 500 additional National Guard troops to Washington.
