On September 15, Shavkat Mirziyoyev touched upon the problem of water shortage in Central Asia at the next meeting of the Council of the Heads of the Founding States of the International Fund for Saving the Island.

According to the press service of the President, the head of state is particularly concerned about the deterioration of the water and ecological situation in the region due to man-made factors arising from the melting of glaciers, natural disasters, as well as rapid demographic growth, urbanization processes and industrialization, and its consequences. emphasized.

"My colleagues know very well that the problem of water shortage in Central Asia has become acute and inevitable, and from now on it will deepen more and more," said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to experts' calculations, the need for water resources will triple by 2040 in some regions of Central Asia. Over time, the economic damage can reach 11% of the gross regional product.

According to the United Nations, the countries of the region are currently losing up to 2 billion dollars a year due to the shortage of water resources and their inefficient use.

The head of state noted that all this requires the development and implementation of new agreed decisions for the long-term perspective.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that a national program on water conservation will be developed within the framework of the development strategy of New Uzbekistan. He said that an exhibition of water-saving technologies of the world's leading companies will be organized as part of the International Climate Forum, which is planned to be held in Samarkand next year.

"In order to comprehensively consider all these issues, we propose to establish a regional platform for regular meetings of the ministers of water resources, energy, ecology and economy of our countries," said the president.
