September 1 Declared “Uzbekistan Independence Day” in Seattle

Seattle Mayor Katie B. Wilson officially proclaimed September 1, 2026, as “Uzbekistan Independence Day.” The decision was made in connection with the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence.

The official proclamation highlights Uzbekistan’s achievements over 35 years of independence, its economic potential in the region, and opportunities for cooperation with Seattle in trade, investment, technology, and other areas.

It also notes that Uzbekistan’s first Consulate General on the U.S. West Coast is being opened in Seattle.

The official opening ceremony of the consulate will take place in Seattle on September 4. Local government officials, diplomats, and representatives of the business and academic communities are expected to attend.
