Schools and universities in Iran closed for two days due to air pollution

Due to severe air pollution, schools and universities in Tehran, the capital of Iran, were closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, and they were allowed to switch to remote learning.

According to the official IRNA news agency, the emergency task force on air pollution under the Ministry of Interior decided on Monday that all classes across Tehran Province — except for the Firuzkuh district — would move to online mode.

Government and private sector employees, except those in rescue services, healthcare, emergency response, military, and law enforcement roles, were granted permission to work from home.

In Tehran, a city with an estimated population of around 9 million, traffic restrictions for vehicles were set from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

In addition, a directive was issued to halt the activities of vehicles carrying perishable goods or fuel, sand and gravel quarries, and cement factories, while truck movement was also banned.
