Yesterday, April 14, we reported that an 8th grader attacked a school in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey, killing 4 people. The death toll has risen to 9. 8 of them are students and 1 is a teacher. Another 13 people were injured in the incident, 6 of whom are in intensive care and 3 are in serious condition.
The attacker entered two classrooms, opened fire and committed suicide. He was found with several weapons and ammunition. The weapons are believed to belong to the attacker's father, a former police officer, and his father has also been arrested. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
This is the second such incident in Turkey in two days. A day earlier, a student opened fire at a high school in the province of Şonlıurfa, injuring 16 people.
Following these incidents, security measures were tightened at schools across the country. At least two security guards were assigned to guard school entrances. 940 social media accounts were blocked, 93 Telegram groups were closed, and 83 suspects were arrested.
