Saudi Arabia bans photography and video inside mosques in Mecca and Medina

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has banned photography and videography in the two holy mosques in Mecca and Medina, Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi, starting from the 2026 Hajj season. Mobile phones, professional cameras and other recording devices are now prohibited in these areas.
The decision aims to ensure that the holy site is not turned into a selfie and tourist spot, and to ensure the safety of pilgrims and the faithful can fully focus on their prayers.
Violators will face sanctions ranging from confiscation of their devices to deportation from the country.
