Samarkand Hosts 57th Meeting of CIS Security and Intelligence Chiefs

On October 16–17, 2025, the 57th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS member states began its work in Samarkand. The event was organized by the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

At the opening session, a welcoming address from President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was read to the participants.

The message emphasized that the Council’s annual meetings have created a solid foundation for cooperation and experience exchange in combating terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, organized crime, and other modern threats.

The head of state highlighted key factors threatening security in Central Asia — instability in Afghanistan, the activity of international terrorist groups, the illegal drug trade, and transnational organized crime.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation to fight cybercrime and prevent the malicious use of artificial intelligence.

The President noted that ongoing conflicts in the surrounding region and the Middle East cause deep concern, negatively affecting economic and food security. These challenges are driving unhealthy competition in global markets, increasing energy prices, and hindering the implementation of national and international projects in the energy and transport sectors.

Mirziyoyev concluded by underscoring the importance of deepening practical cooperation among CIS intelligence services and joining efforts to ensure sustainable development in the economic, energy, communication, and food security spheres.
