"Samarkand 2028" heads to space in a historic milestone for Uzbekistan

Today, August 5, Uzbekistan's "Samarkand 2028" satellite was successfully launched from a sea-based launch platform near China's Shandong Province.

The project is being carried out through cooperation between Uzbekcosmos and the Chinese company STAR.VISION. The satellite was named in honor of the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), which will be held in Samarkand in 2028.

The "Samarkand 2028" satellite is equipped with an artificial intelligence module capable of processing hyperspectral data directly in orbit. The collected data will be used in agriculture, environmental protection, natural resource monitoring, and other sectors.

The project is regarded as a major milestone in the development of Uzbekistan's national space program.
