Russian gas imports to the EU reached a record level
In the first quarter of 2026, European Union countries imported 6.9 billion cubic meters of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). This is 16% higher compared to the same period last year and marks the highest level in recent years.
France, Spain, and Belgium became the main buyers of Russian gas, with France recording a new import high.
Experts say the figures show that Europe still remains dependent on Russian energy resources.
