Imports of petroleum products from the Russian Federation in the first half of 2023 amounted to more than 85% of the total volume, the Customs Service of Tajikistan emphasized
Most of the required volume of petroleum products for Tajikistan comes from Russia.
This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Sorbon Kholmukhammadzoda at the Energy Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana.
“Today, Russia is one of the main partners in the fuel and energy complex of Tajikistan,” he stated.
According to the data he presented, within the framework of bilateral agreements, “a significant part of petroleum products is supplied to the republic” annually from the Russian Federation.
Thus, imports of petroleum products from the Russian Federation in the first half of 2023 amounted to more than 85% of the total volume, the Customs Service of Tajikistan emphasized.
“During this period, over 451 thousand tons were received, which is almost 100 thousand tons more compared to the same period in 2022,” the customs office indicated.
Kholmukhammadzoda noted that Tajikistan actively cooperates with the countries of the region on issues of importing petroleum products and meeting growing domestic demand.
“The top four for imports of petroleum products also include Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan,” he clarified.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan reported that in the first half of 2023, more than 9 thousand tons of oil were produced in the republic.

Ban on the export of fuel from the Russian Federation: analysis of the consequences for neighboring countries
The ministry associates the low performance with the ineffective work of a number of Tajik companies.
It is noted that the reasons for the reduction in black gold production are low reservoir pressure (low pressure leads to insufficient oil flow from the well) and problems with power supply, especially in the cold season.
The decline in oil production is also affected by the slow restoration of wells, which Petroleum Sogd is working on, the department emphasized.
According to official information, Tajikistan has significant mineral reserves: more than a billion tons of oil and 6-7 trillion cubic meters. m of gas.
