Russia and China vetoed the draft resolution of the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East proposed by the United States.

According to TASS, ten countries supported the document, while Russia, China and the United Arab Emirates opposed it. Two more countries abstained.

The US-proposed resolution condemns Hamas' attack on Israel, calls for the release of hostages and compliance with international humanitarian law. The document does not call for a ceasefire, but recognizes the right of countries to defend themselves, the agency writes.

At the same time, Reuters clarified that the document requires the cessation of hostilities to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Russia's draft resolution on the war in the Middle East was also not adopted - it did not receive the required number of votes. Four delegations voted "for", two "against". Nine others abstained.

On October 18, the United States vetoed a draft resolution drafted by Brazil that called for a cessation of hostilities to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Before that, the vote was postponed twice, writes Reuters.

First, the UN Security Council did not accept Russia's draft resolution on the ceasefire, because the document did not mention the Hamas movement that attacked Israel.
