On October 21, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law aimed at refining the Latin-based Uzbek alphabet. This was announced by Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration.
According to the law, the representation of four letter combinations (digraphs) will be changed:
O‘ → Ö
G‘ → Ğ
Sh → Ş
Ch → Ç
The law will come into effect six months after its official publication. There is no requirement for the immediate replacement of existing documents, textbooks, or other materials. Instead, they will be adapted to the new alphabet gradually, as they are updated or replaced.
