Rahmon: the visit of the President of Turkmenistan is a significant event

At the talks between the leaders of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, the importance of maintaining a regular political dialogue at all levels was noted

DUSHANBE, May 10 - Sputnik. The visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov became a significant event of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the republics.

This was stated by the leader of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon following a meeting with the head of a neighboring state. He noted that on the eve and within the framework of the official visit to Dushanbe, various events were held. According to him, during the talks "the importance of maintaining a regular political dialogue at all levels" was noted. Emomali Rahmon also expressed confidence that the documents adopted during the meeting will contribute to:

implementation of mutual visits;

establishing business contacts;

holding events of a cultural and humanitarian nature.

In addition, the leaders of the republics exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan.

"We, as close neighbors, are sincerely interested in establishing long-term peace and stability in this country," the presidents of the countries agreed.

In September 2023, summits of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea are expected to be held in Dushanbe.

In this regard, Emomali Rahmon invited Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Tajikistan. Earlier it was reported that the President of Tajikistan warmly welcomed his Turkmen colleague at the Palace of the Nation. So, they walked along the line of military personnel, where the anthems of the states were performed, and 21 salutatory volleys were fired in honor of Berdimuhamedov.

Rahmon, in turn, expressed confidence that this visit would open a new page in relations between the two states. They paid special attention to the prospects for expanding transit traffic through Turkmenistan. The emphasis was placed on industrial cooperation, energy and agricultural sectors. Also, Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited the President of Tajikistan to visit Turkmenistan at a convenient time for him.
