Qumqorgon District Governor’s Words About “Making Fuel from Dung” Misinterpreted

On October 16, a video showing Qumqorgon district governor Anvar Normamatov saying “no one makes dung anymore” went viral and sparked public debate.
According to the district administration’s press secretary, Akrom Norboyev, the circulated video was cut and edited, leading to a distorted interpretation of the governor’s words.

The official explained that the session was actually about energy resources, during which deputies were instructed to promote preparedness for winter and natural gas shortages among residents and entrepreneurs.

He added that newly built farms have not been connected to the natural gas network for the past eight years due to a government decision, yet people continue to request gas access from the local administration.
The governor’s remarks were meant to encourage residents to prepare alternative fuel (like dung) for the winter, and his phrase “don’t ask for gas, there’s none left” referred to the ongoing government restriction, not a dismissal of citizens’ needs.
