“Project Hail Mary” grosses $510 million
The film “Project Hail Mary”, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, has earned $510 million in less than a month of release. This makes it the second highest-grossing film in Ryan Gosling’s career.
In North America, the film collected $256 million, while international markets brought in $254 million. The film’s production budget was $190 million.
“Project Hail Mary” is now one of the most successful projects in Ryan Gosling’s career, ranking second after Barbie, which grossed $1.4 billion worldwide.
The movie is based on the novel by Andy Weir. The story follows Ryland Grace, a former molecular biologist and school teacher who becomes an astronaut. He wakes up aboard a spacecraft with no memory of how he got there. Gradually, he recalls that he was sent to the star Tau Ceti, located about 12 light-years from Earth, on a mission to save humanity from extinction.
The screenplay was written by Drew Goddard, who previously adapted The Martian for the screen.
It was also recently announced that the film will receive a VR game adaptation titled “Journey Among the Stars,” set for release in late 2026. Andy Weir has written a new chapter for the game, continuing the story beyond the book and film.
