Preventing Water Scarcity: Large-Scale Program for 2026 Approved in Uzbekistan

According to the Agency for the Operation of Water Management Facilities, a 2026 program aimed at the efficient use of water resources and preventing water scarcity has been approved in Uzbekistan.

Under the resolution, water reservoirs based on modern water-saving technologies will be constructed in regions with unstable water supply to support agricultural needs. A total of 60 billion soums has been allocated for these purposes, with an additional 60 billion soums designated for supplementary measures.

Within the program, projects will be implemented to concrete and reconstruct irrigation canals, build new reservoirs, and improve the water supply system. Project documentation will be prepared in the shortest possible time, after which construction work will be carried out in stages.

The plan also includes allocating land plots for reservoir construction in certain areas, as well as relocating trees and shrubs if necessary.

As a result, water supply is expected to improve across approximately 159,000 hectares of land, irrigation efficiency will increase, and the time required for water delivery to fields will be reduced by 2–3 times.
