President signs decree to improve the environmental situation in Tashkent

On 25 November, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on urgent measures aimed at improving the environmental situation in the capital.
According to the decree, a special commission has been established to develop a set of measures for the near, medium, and long term. Its key responsibilities include:

🔹 strengthening environmental oversight;
🔹 restricting the operation of polluting facilities;
🔹 enforcing strict requirements for construction processes;
🔹 large-scale greening of the city;
🔹 establishing a modern air-quality monitoring system.

According to the Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection, the air-quality issue in Tashkent is primarily linked to three factors: climate change and low precipitation, emissions from heat sources and industrial enterprises, and pollutants released by vehicles.

In the coming days, the commission will prepare a concrete action plan and submit it to the President.

On 24 November, Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration, chaired a meeting dedicated to discussing urgent measures to improve the ecological situation in the capital. Based on expert assessments, comprehensive proposals covering short-, medium-, and long-term perspectives were developed.
