President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Expands Strategic Partnership with Japan in Education

As part of his official visit to Tokyo, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held meetings with Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Matsumoto Yohei, President of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Sugino Suyoshi, as well as with the heads of leading Japanese higher education institutions, including the University of Tsukuba, Nagoya University, Tottori University, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Nagoya University of Economics, and others.

The President of Uzbekistan noted that Japan has long been among the world’s leaders in terms of investment in science and the number of scientific patents. The country has produced many outstanding scholars, including Nobel Prize laureates in physics, chemistry, and medicine.

Japan’s school education model is distinguished by a strong foundation in natural sciences and mathematics, high teaching standards, and a culture of diligence, teamwork, and discipline. Prestigious Japanese diplomas, especially in engineering, robotics, medicine, and pharmacy, are highly valued worldwide. Of particular note is the close and well-established link between education and science with industry and business in Japan.

Currently, more than 2,800 students from Uzbekistan are studying at leading educational institutions in Japan. Under the JDS scholarship program alone, more than 440 civil servants have received education and training in Japan.
