President Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of India to our country

On May 19, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to our country Sridharan Madhusudhanan.

Report informs, the Ambassador presented his credentials to President Ilham Aliyev.

Then the head of state talked with the ambassador.

First of all, the Ambassador noted that he was deeply satisfied with his arrival in Azerbaijan at a time when our country is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great leader. He stressed that the views of the prominent personality Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev give reason to conclude that Azerbaijan is on the path to building a prosperous, multicultural country with a strong economy.

Noting that Azerbaijan currently chairs the Non-Aligned Movement, and India presides over the G20 and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the ambassador stressed with satisfaction that his country is among the top five trading partners of Azerbaijan, and the increase in mutual trade last year by 155 percent is a good indicator of this.

According to Sridharan Madhusudhanan, given that India also has a strong economy, our countries have great potential in terms of expanding economic cooperation. In this context, he mentioned the oil industry and pharmaceuticals.

At the same time, the ambassador said that the multiculturalism prevailing in Azerbaijan is very attractive for India, and stressed the importance of expanding ties in the humanitarian sphere as well.

Touching upon cooperation in the field of tourism, the diplomat noted that a large number of Indian tourists visiting Azerbaijan, the ancient history of ties between our peoples, numerous historical monuments in our country open up wide opportunities for cooperation in the field of tourism. The Ambassador said that along with the ancient, historical buildings in our capital, buildings in a modern style leave a pleasant impression.

Sridharan Madhusudhanan assured that he would make every effort to cooperate in the field of information technology, energy, education, ecology and other areas.

Noting that the great leader is the founder of the modern Azerbaijani statehood, who ensured the development of our country, President Ilham Aliyev stressed that when the national leader began his presidential activities, the Azerbaijani lands were already occupied by Armenians, as a result of which one million of our compatriots were expelled from their historical lands, and the occupied territories were destroyed. The main goal of the activities of great leader Heydar Aliyev was to ensure our territorial integrity and defense capability, build a strong state and powerful economy. The head of state said that two and a half years ago Azerbaijan liberated its lands from occupation, and thus the dreams and precepts of the national leader were put into practice.

The President of Azerbaijan noted that during the 30-year occupation, our people faced a humanitarian catastrophe, one million of our compatriots were left homeless. This fact created great obstacles for the development of Azerbaijan. Today, when our lands have been liberated from occupation, the country has great potential in all areas. Stressing that large-scale restoration and construction work is being carried out in the territories liberated from occupation, the head of state said that after the Victory won in the Patriotic War, the Azerbaijani people live with a sense of pride, and this is manifested in all spheres.

The President of Azerbaijan also noted that revanchist forces are raising their heads in Armenia today, territorial claims against our country continue. Stating that the rapid armament of Armenia creates new dangers, the head of state noted that if Armenia really wants peace with Azerbaijan, then why does it acquire weapons worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The President of Azerbaijan stressed that this policy could lead to new threats to the region.

Touching upon the issue of Azerbaijan's chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement, President Ilham Aliyev said that the period of our country's chairmanship has become very effective for the institutional development of the Movement. The head of state noted that, as is known, a number of important initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan in this regard have been successfully implemented. The President of Azerbaijan stressed the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, continuing adherence to the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries known as the Bandung principles.

Recalling that India is one of the founding states of the Non-Aligned Movement, President Ilham Aliyev said that although this institution has had different periods of development since its inception, it is important that it become a significant factor in global politics in the future.
