Pope Leo XIV's visit to Turkey

Pope Leo XIV arrived in Turkey on November 27 as part of his first international trip. The trip, which will run from November 27 to December 2, is to commemorate the 1,700th anniversary of the adoption of the Nicene Creed. Leo XIV, who was elected pope in May, chose Turkey, the Muslim-majority country, as his first stop. He met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara and with Patriarch Bartholomew, the leader of the world's Orthodox Christians, in Istanbul. He also spent three days in Turkey visiting a number of historical and religious sites and holding a historic mass with Turkish Christians at the Volkswagen Arena. It was the first mass mass in Turkish history to be held by a pope.
