Pope calls for recognition of Palestinian state

Pope Leo XIV has stressed the need to establish and recognize a Palestinian state as the only just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He made the remarks to reporters on a flight from Turkey to Lebanon.
According to the pope, while Israel is not currently accepting this decision, the Vatican is ready to mediate a just solution while maintaining friendly relations with both sides.
The Vatican officially recognized Palestine as a state in 2015.
