Political situation in Venezuela: Delcy Rodríguez sworn in, Machado prepares for elections

On Monday, Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as interim president at the Venezuelan National Assembly in Caracas. During the session, lawmakers voiced support for Nicolás Maduro, chanting “Go, Nico!”. Maduro’s son, MP Nicolás Maduro Guerra, also attended the event, speaking about his parents’ “return” to Venezuela and expressing unconditional support for Delcy Rodríguez.

Against this backdrop, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who recently received the Nobel Prize instead of Donald Trump, announced that she plans to return to the country soon and take part in the presidential election. According to Reuters, she believes that if fair elections are held, the opposition could win more than 90 percent of the vote. Machado also backed U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to remove Maduro from power and said she would personally hand over the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to her to Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump has so far expressed skepticism about holding new elections in Venezuela, stating that stability must first be restored.
