Pedophiles will be sentenced to life in prison in Uzbekistan

On March 3, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed new initiatives aimed at further strengthening the rights of women and children and preventing violence against them and signed a relevant decree.

According to the document:

🔹The administrative penalty of up to 5 days of imprisonment for sexual misconduct will be tightened.

🔹It is envisaged to establish a penalty of up to life imprisonment for pedophiles.

🔹Convicts who have committed sexual crimes against minors under Articles 118 and 119 of the Criminal Code will not be transferred to correctional colonies.

🔹Investigation powers under 6 articles on sexual crimes will be transferred from the internal affairs bodies to the prosecutor's office.

🔹When considering administrative cases on sexual misconduct, the prosecutor's decision on the absence of signs of a crime will be mandatory.

🔹Specially trained lawyers, investigators, and judges will deal with crimes of violence against women and children.

🔹A special SOS application will be introduced for women who have been victims of violence and who have been issued a protection order. When a button is pressed, internal affairs officers within a 5 km radius will arrive within 10 minutes.

The President approved these initiatives and gave instructions to disseminate them to the general public.
