Passenger Ferry Capsizes Near Northern Cyprus, 8 People Killed
A passenger ferry traveling to the Turkish port of Taşucu capsized and sank off the coast of Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus.
There were 259 passengers and 8 crew members on board, for a total of 267 people. Shortly after leaving the port, the vessel began taking on water and then capsized.
Rescuers saved more than 240 people, while 8 people died. The search for those still missing is ongoing.
The cause of the incident has not yet been determined. Coast guard vessels, helicopters, and nearby boats have been involved in the rescue operation.
