Over 10,000 people died in Europe due to extreme heat
More than 10,000 deaths were recorded in late June as a result of an abnormal heatwave sweeping across Europe. This was reported by the EuroMOMO monitoring program.
The highest number of fatalities occurred among people over the age of 65. Experts note that extreme heat not only causes heatstroke but also exacerbates cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
Reports indicate that approximately 5,100 people died due to the heat in Germany, while around 2,700 deaths occurred in England and Wales.
Meanwhile, the surface temperature of the world's oceans also rose to a record high, averaging 21°C in June. Scientists view this as another alarming sign of global climate change.
