The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) handed over more than 14,000 liters of oil products to the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CoES) under the government of Tajikistan for disaster relief work. This was reported at the OSCE Program Office in Dushanbe.
“The OSCE Program Office in Dushanbe donated 9,800 liters of diesel fuel and 4,500 liters of petroleum products to the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense. The donation will be used to refuel CoES vehicles and equipment, which are used to protect and evacuate the population to safe areas during natural disasters.
The report notes that 21 people died from the consequences of heavy rains that took place on August 27-28 in the republic. “Maintaining and increasing the operational capacity of CoES is vital and the Program Office will continue to support its efforts to save lives and mitigate natural disasters,” the statement said.
Rescuers in the republic continue to eliminate the consequences of mudflows and rockfalls after heavy rains. In areas affected by the disaster, houses, bridges and dozens of cars were damaged, household plots were flooded.
