Official: Javokhir Sindorov wins the FIDE Candidates Tournament
Yesterday, on April 16, the award ceremony of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 took place. During the ceremony, in the women’s section, Vaishali Rameshbabu secured first place with 8.5 points and earned the right to compete against Ju Wenjun for the world championship title.
In the men’s competition, Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindorov claimed the championship title ahead of schedule with 10 points and 6 victories. He defeated strong opponents such as Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, and others.
In his speech, Javokhir Sindorov stated that winning such a tournament is a dream for every player, noted that the tournament was excellently organized, and expressed his willingness to participate in similar competitions in the future.
This victory grants Sindorov another opportunity to compete for the chess crown against the reigning World Champion, Gukesh Dommaraju.
